Alpha · Version 0.1.0
Install Walkie
About ten minutes: install the Mac app, pick a work folder, and scan one QR code with your iPhone.
Before you start
- A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later) on macOS 13 or later. Intel Macs aren’t supported yet.
- An iPhone with Safari.
- At least one coding agent installed and signed in on the Mac: Claude Code, Codex, or Antigravity.
- Your iPhone and Mac on the same Wi-Fi for the first pairing.
1. Install the Mac app
Download the installer from the link in your Alpha invitation email.
- Open
Walkie-0.1.0-mac.pkgand follow the installer. It puts Walkie in Applications and adds thewalkiecommand for Terminal. - This Alpha build isn’t notarized by Apple yet, so macOS stops it the first time. On macOS 15 or later: try to open it once, then go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway at the bottom. On macOS 14 or earlier: Control-click the file, choose Open, then Open again. You only do this once.
- Open Walkie from Applications. After setup it lives in the menu bar (the antenna icon).
2. Set up on the Mac
- Choose a work folder. Pick the project folder your agents should work in. Walkie won’t accept your whole home folder or a whole disk.
- Check your agents. Walkie shows which of Claude Code, Codex, and Antigravity are installed and signed in.
- Turn on “Open at login” if you want Walkie ready whenever your Mac is.
Work folder in Documents, Desktop, or Downloads? macOS asks for permission on the Mac screen, where you can’t tap Allow from your phone. Add Walkie under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access; the Walkie window has a button that takes you there.
3. Connect your iPhone
- Scan the QR code in the Walkie window with the iPhone Camera and open the link in Safari.
- The first time, your iPhone needs to trust Walkie’s security certificate so the connection stays encrypted. Follow the steps on the phone: install the profile under Settings → Profile Downloaded, then turn on full trust under Settings → General → About → Certificate Trust Settings.
- In Safari, tap Share → Add to Home Screen. A paired phone stays paired, even after a restart.
4. Before you leave your desk
The Before you leave checklist in the Walkie window shows what’s ready:
- Approvals on your phone. Walkie sends your agents’ permission requests to the phone. Walkie asks before setting this up, and backs up each agent’s settings file first. Codex asks you to trust the new hook once, in Codex’s
/hooks. - Away from this Wi-Fi. To reach your Mac from elsewhere, install Tailscale on both the Mac and the iPhone.
Troubleshooting
- The phone can’t connect. Check that both devices are on the same Wi-Fi (or both on Tailscale), and that the menu bar shows Walkie as running.
- An agent isn’t found. Make sure it works in Terminal, then choose Restart Walkie Talkie Service from the menu bar.
- Something else. The log is at
~/Library/Logs/Walkie/server.log. Email yanglidatascience@gmail.com; please mention your macOS version.
Uninstall
- Remove the approval hooks, one command per agent you set up:
walkie uninstall-hooks --agent claude(orcodex, antigravity). - Choose Quit Walkie Talkie in the menu bar, then delete
/Applications/Walkie.appand/usr/local/bin/walkie. - To remove paired phones and settings too, delete
~/Library/Application Support/AgentWalkieTalkie.
